Former President Álvaro Uribe receives support from Mauricio Macri: "We support him with the conviction that he consistently demonstrated his innocence."

Several former presidents and international figures have spoken out in support of former President Álvaro Uribe, who was convicted of procedural fraud and bribery in criminal proceedings.
One of those who spoke out was former Argentine President Mauricio Macri, who stated that he supports the former president.
“I know Álvaro Uribe Vélez, I know of his integrity, his leadership, and his love for Colombia. We are following with concern the irregularities detected during the trial that convicted him today. We support him with the conviction that he has consistently demonstrated his innocence,” Macri said.

The United States also spoke out. Senator Marco Rubio spoke about the "instrumentalization" of the judiciary in Colombia.
" Former Colombian President Uribe's only crime has been to fight tirelessly and defend his homeland. The instrumentalization of the Colombian judiciary by radical judges has set a worrying precedent," Rubio wrote on his X account.
Among the international voices, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar also spoke out, stating that Uribe was condemned because he refused to “make a pact with criminals.”

“Today, justice was not served in Colombia. An infamy was committed against Álvaro Uribe, the man who rescued the country from terrorism and confronted the FARC when no one else dared. They condemn him because he refused to make a pact with criminals, because he is an obstacle to the radical left that wants to seize power and turn Colombia into another Venezuela. It's the same Castro-Chavista script: political persecution against anyone who opposes their radical agendas. From the United States, we raise our voices: Uribe is not alone! Decent, freedom-loving Colombians stand with him!” he wrote in a post.
Likewise, Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori and former presidential candidate, spoke out about the case on social media.

“President @AlvaroUribeVel, you are not alone. From Peru, I stand in solidarity with you in the face of this unjust measure that attempts to damage your honor, and also that of millions of citizens who believe in your legacy, which has crossed borders , inspires new generations, and is recognized throughout the world. History will put things right. Strength and faith,” Fujimori said.
However, others disagree with the position expressed in the United States. Congressman Jim McGovern wrote: “The Trump administration claims that foreign leaders should not be subject to the rule of law if they speak well of Trump. @SecRubio, it is a grave mistake to support impunity for a strongman who is held accountable in the courts of his own country. This statement is shameful, and you know it.”
